Funding

Grade separation is a large capital investment for the City. It will cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Funding grade separation will take a myriad of funding sources.

One of the main funding sources is from the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). Through Measure B, VTA has $700 Million in funding which will be split between Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale based on a VTA funding allocation process. Each city needs to select their preferred alternatives before VTA will provide funding. Mountain View and Sunnyvale are further along in their planning efforts than Palo Alto.

In addition to the VTA funding, there are some federal and local loans and funding sources which could be used to fund our grade separation.

For discussions about potential local funding sources such as a business tax, visit the Finance Committee web page.
